Subject: MYP Year 11 Final Exams
Dear MYP Year 11 Students and Parents,
As we approach the end of the academic year, we would like to provide important details about the upcoming MYP Final Exams, which are scheduled to take place from May 27th to May 29th. It is crucial for students to be well-prepared for these exams to ensure a smooth and successful testing experience.
Purpose of MYP Final Exams:
The purpose of the MYP Final Exams is to familiarize Year 11 students with the practice of sitting exams in the DP. Furthermore, it aims to develop their exam-taking strategies, including the use of a 5-minute reading time, following a seating plan, and writing only in black or blue ink pens (with no whiteouts allowed). These comprehensive exams cover all topics studied this year in the identified subjects. They are designed to help students learn how to deal with exam pressure and demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, and skills in each subject. MYP exam subjects include:
Language and literature (English & Chinese);
Language acquisition (Chinese & Spanish);
Individuals and societies
Sciences
Mathematics (Standard & Extended).
Importance and Weighting of the Exam:
It's essential to note that these exams are NOT high-stakes assessments like DP exams. They are also not DP mock exams. Instead, they should be considered as a snapshot of each student's current academic status. The criterion-related grades from the MYP Final Exams contribute to the overall determination of your child’s semester grade, with the same weighting as a regular major assignment. The MYP final exam grades will be reported as part of the ARR unit-by-unit reporting process,
Preparation for the Exams:
To prepare for the MYP Final Exams, students should revise all the work covered this year, practice exam techniques and time management, and ensure they get plenty of rest the night before each exam. Our teachers will also provide revision sessions for students to work through after the break to further support their preparations.
Departure After Exams:
After students complete their exams each day, they will be allowed to leave the school campus. Specific logistics for the exam days will be communicated as the dates approach.
Accessing Exam Outlines:
We encourage all students to refer to the MYP Subject Exam Outlines when preparing for their exams.
We are confident that with the right preparation and support, all students will perform at their best during the MYP Final Exams.
We wish all the Year 11 students the best of luck as they prepare for the MYP Final Exams.

Hello all!
We're a pair of students from Year 11 who have contacted the UNICEF headquarters in Hong Kong to start a club at our school. Our current project is to organise a school art competition with the theme of Sustainable Development Goals and to do so, we need to gather a leadership team in charge of organizing, planning, and sorting logistics to make this happen. We would like to first specify that given we are on a tight schedule late submissions will not be entertained.
UNICEF Club is a student-run initiative in cooperation with UNICEF and our school. UNICEF's main goal and initiative surround the SDGs and child rights, and given students have diversified interests in different disciplines, we believe that an art competition would be a great way to advocate for their cause. We are looking for a leadership team that is not only dedicated to the subject but also dedicated to making this event a detail-oriented and goal-achieving success. Advocacy is our main purpose, hence please consider this.
The sign ups are open to anyone who is in Year 10 and up and is interested in art and the Sustainable Development Goals. Feel free to contact parkek1@dc.edu.hk, or bahrir1@dc.edu.hk if you have any questions or concerns, and if you are interested in joining, fill out the form (due on Monday, April 29th, 2024, 11:59 pm)! Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews by late next week.
Here is the form: https://forms.gle/Kt3nYwoNej5uPoqe9
Thank you and good luck!

During the Data Science Summer Academy, you will gain insight into these questions through a series of lectures, labs, and activities and will have the opportunity to learn from guest speakers.
In particular, this summer program will introduce students to all aspects of a data analysis process through a collection of case studies, from posing questions, designing data collection strategies, management, storing and processing of data, exploratory tools and visualization, statistical inference, prediction, classification, machine learning, and interpretation and communication of results. Computation will be done using Python and Jupyter Notebooks.
The program will culminate with a capstone project which will give teams of students the chance to showcase what they learn.
